Operation Graduation

For K - 3rd graders enrolled in the YMCA READS! tutoring program and for the 3rd - 5th graders attending for Homework Assistance, the 2 hours each week spent with their mentor really makes a difference. But academic achievement isn't the only focus of this program.

On days when there is no tutoring and directly following each tutoring session, students from Emma E. Booker Elementary attend a new Afterschool Enrichment Program open Monday - Friday from 3:00 -5:30 p.m. Operation Graduation provides activities for children with the intent to engage the "whole child" focusing not just on their academic development but also on their social, emotional, physical, and character development. The combination of services makes this so much more than just a remediation program for low performing students. It connects students to people who really care and provides security after school while parents are working.

An assortment of activities including arts and crafts, sports, snack, games and outside time on a new playground add variety and interest to the day and provide unlimited opportunities to make new friends and develop new skills.

Operation Graduation strives to create a seamless continuum of services and support for participating youth and families promoting student success and building parental relationships in the Newtown and surrounding Sarasota communities. Our goal is to help Sarasota inner-city students achieve academically and to successfully complete elementary, middle and high school levels. Students receive remedial and enrichment instruction in order to maintain academic standards.

For youth in 1st through 5th grade, the Operation Graduation After School Enrichment Program offers activities daily from 3:00-5:30. The program offers a safe, supervised, and supportive environment for youth to come in the afternoon. Tutors are available to provide homework assistance as well as remedial reading and math activities. Art, games, physical fitness and life skills activities provide a well-rounded experience. Operation Graduation also encourages and builds family connections through parental involvement in youth achievement
